Where do you usually get your best ideas?

Everyone has their creative spark moments. Some of us get ideas in the shower, others while walking the dog or sketching late at night. What environments, habits, or moments tend to inspire your best invention ideas?

Most of my ideas come from a long time in the construction industry with hand-on approach. If I can’t do a job how can I ask others to accomplish a task. We learn by doing-and make mistakes on the way.

Thanks for sharing, @DanC! I love the hands-on approach you mentioned. There’s something powerful about learning through doing, and making mistakes is often the best way to grow and innovate. It’s inspiring to hear how your experience in the construction industry shapes your ideas. For me, my best ideas come when I’m doing what I love, whether it’s sports, tech, gardening, or enjoying my spiritual side. Those moments when I’m fully immersed in what excites me always seem to spark my creativity. It’s like being in the flow opens up new ideas and perspectives naturally.

Ideas for inventions/products usually come to mind while dealing with an inconvenient or aggravating situation or issue - that classic and essential ‘problem’ to solve!

@LorriCornett I totally agree, those annoying daily problems really fuel the best ideas! It’s interesting how often frustration leads to creativity.

Does anyone else find that certain environments or routines help turn those problems into solutions? Would love to hear more experiences!

Andy, thinking about tomorrow…I am trying to determine if I have a set-up that will work. I’m trying to determine a distance from my camera to get a standing shot that allows me to demonstrate how the cover goes on might be difficult. Would it work to send a 10-second shot of that action to somehow incorporated into the life he or open the live feed with it?

Hi @LorriCornett! Yes, we can definitely work a short shot of that action into your live presentation—just have it ready as an MP4 file, and we’ll be able to upload it and play it on demand during the event.

Also, we’re hosting a virtual dress rehearsal tonight—Tuesday, June 24th at 8 PM ET. I noticed you haven’t filled out the registration form yet, which is why you likely didn’t receive the email with those details. Please take a moment to fill it out here so we have your info and can get you into the correct mailing list:

Once that’s submitted, I’ll send over the rehearsal link for tonight.

Looking forward to your demo—we’ll make sure it works smoothly!

Best,
Andy

I, too, get my ideas when there’s a problem to be solved. When my fence blew down in Hurricane Milton last October, I stood in my yard and looked at it, some of it on the east side of the fence line and some of it on the west. We got the eye of the storm. The wind blew in both directions.

As I stood there, a fence to solve this problem came to mind. Over the next couple of days, 4 models occurred to me. I looked online and saw that one had already been invented. Another was too close to that to interest me, but I may pursue it later. The other two are very compelling and I have no doubt (in my inventor’s enthusiasm and hopefulness) that they will be on the market. My patent attorney could not find any sign of it in the records he searched.
